"One Day", although not a blockbuster, was a pleasant movie experience. A story of a couple who "hooked up" the day of their college graduation (July 15, 1988) and, followed their lives and friendship on the same day for the next twenty-three years. It brought to mind "Same Time Next Year", a favorite of mine from years ago.
Although attention to detail was a bit remiss, (Anne Hathaway's underwear in 1988 looked like something from the fifties) you came to care about the characters and their lives. Hathaway and Jim Sturgess did great jobs as the couple. I had never seen Sturgess before. Secondary roles were good if somewhat bland.
Bland is the best adjective to describe this movie. Not bad, just not great. One thing that I did realize while viewing is that Anne Hathaway has the gift of being able to go from "Plain Jane" to "Breathtaking" with just a change of clothes and hairstyle.
