THE ARTIST

I had no desire to sit through a "silent" movie as I refuse to see ones with subtitles.  However, since "The Artist" continues to rack up awards and, the fact that I try to see everything nominated for the OSCAR, I went to see it.

Thank goodness for the Academy because without the nods, I would have missed this one.  It certainly would have been my loss.  What a marvelous stroke of genius!  The story is a silent movie about the stars of a silent movie.  There were some great American character actors such as John Goodman, James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller but, the real stars were the unknowns (to me) Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo.  What an incredible job they all did in recreating old "Hollywood".

"The Artist" certainly deserves all the award nominations it has received and I predict will take away some big ones.  I wish there was an award for best performance by an animal as Uggie the Jack Russell Terrier almost stole the show.
