GOOD DEEDS

I love Tyler Perry.  He's Oprah's friend, flew Whitney to her resting place in his private jet, and he seems like a genuine guy.  Madea is funny but, like Ernest did, she has worn out her welcome.

Tyler's sitcoms just suck.  I have never seen any of his "adult" movies until today and from what I saw they aren't much better.  I went to the movie because the trailer looked good.  Rich guy befriends, helps and falls in love with a poor girl.  Who wouldn't love that?

Throw in some actors we all know and love and what more do you need?  Writing, direction and something much less boring in this case.  Sadly, nothing in this movie clicked.  What had such a promising premise just failed.

First, you had to believe that Thandie Newton cleaned office buildings at night, survived homelessness and other hardships, that would sent most people in for extreme therapy, all while looking beautiful and well dressed.   Second, that Perry's character ran a major corporation with its own building inherited from his Dad with the help of a doting Mom and doofus Brother.  Third, he was engaged to Gabrielle Union to whom he had absolutely nothing in common and no chemistry.  Fourth, (SPOILER ALERT) we were expected to believe that a woman no matter how bad her life was would run away to Africa with a man she had barely kissed.

And, at the beginning of the movie when we had already learned that Tyler and Gabrielle were very rich, we were expected to believe that she would spend five minutes putting on Maybelline Great Lash mascara.  Great Lash, of course, is a classic but, would a woman of this wealth actually go into a store that sold it?

Better luck next time Tyler.
