It seems these days if Jason Segal and Chris Pratt make a movie I will come. Although I respect the work of Emily Blunt I haven't seen her in a movie since "The Devil Wears Prada". So it was without a doubt that my movie of the week would be The Five Year Engagement.
I was warned that is was raunchy but, it was tame by the standards of other movies I've seen. I had seen the trailers and, was delighted that all these "spoilers" happened within the first half of the movie. But, I wanted to shout......"Get married already"!
Tom and Violet were two professionals very much in love. As it happens most of the time life doesn't work out the way they planned. So instead of getting married and moving half way across the country, they stay engaged and make the move. Along the way a sibling and best friend become pregnant after a drunken night and they have no trouble tying the knot. I just never quite understood the validity of what Tom and Violet are waiting for.
As expected the move makes them question and almost destroys their relationship. However, as with all good movies they make it to the altar in the end. My favorite part of the movie was the impromptu wedding. Anyway, some really good performances by some really good actors but, just not enough to make the movie click.
